United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our Sustainability RoadMap 2025 focuses our efforts under three pillars of activity, represented by nine Sustainable Development Goals. As members of the UN Global Compact, we are starting to report on the progress we’ve made in reducing our impacts in these nine priority areas.

Health and welfare

Our Health & Welfare pillar addresses SDG 3 (Good Health and well-being). Our main focus is on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a serious and growing problem globally. Since 80% of antibiotic usage takes place in the livestock production sector, we have a significant role to play. Our nutritional solutions enable protein farmers to reduce their dependency on antibiotics. We are supporting them in taking a holistic approach to farm management that can even result in protein products “never-ever” being exposed to antibiotics.

Climate and circularity

Our Climate & Circularity pillar addresses SDGs 13 (Climate action), 14 (Life below water) and 15 (Life on land).  At Nutreco, the most significant part of our environmental impact is in the supply-side of our business model and activities; we are working together with partners at every stage of the value chain to reduce our carbon emissions footprint, by making significant reductions in our energy usage and the footprint of our procurement activities. We committed to the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative in 2020, to ensure that we set meaningful goals in line with the latest in climate science to help us get ready for a lower-carbon future.

Good citizenship

Our Good Citizenship pillar addresses SDGs 2 (Zero hunger), 5 (Gender equality), 8 (Decent work and economic growth), 12 (Responsible consumptions and production) and 17 (Partnerships for the goals). Our main focus areas are diversity and inclusion and community development. We’re committed to ensuring the diversity of our stakeholder groups is reflected in the diversity of our people and to building an inclusive culture where everyone is respected, engaged and given opportunities for personal and professional development. Through our community development projects, we engage with small, marginalised, farmers in the communities where we are present to empower them to improve their standard of living.
