Nutreco publishes its 2019 Sustainability Report

To mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Nutreco today publishes its online 2019 Sustainability Report, highlighting the work being done across the company at both a global and local level to drive the company’s mission of Feeding the Future.

Nutreco CEO Rob Koremans says, “At Nutreco, sustainability remains not only a driving force in our business – it’s the only way we do business. Employees across our whole company are focused on our mission of Feeding the Future, carrying it out in ways that fit our local priorities and show their passion for serving customers and communities. In 2019, we took our mission into exciting new directions, through our investments in breakthrough innovation to help our industry produce more food, more sustainably.”

A pivotal year for Nutreco
With its Vision 2020 sustainability strategy formally ending in January 2020, 2019 was a pivotal year for Nutreco. Its Sustainability Report outlines the company’s progress on completing its 2020 objectives and describes the process of developing its strategy for coming years. “We engaged a broad group of stakeholders inside and outside the company to help identify the key issues of concern to society within our value chain,” says José. “Our RoadMap 2025 outlines how we will address the issues we expect to face over the next five years in a more target- and results-oriented way than ever before.”

The company’s ambitions for 2025 include a commitment to source sustainable ingredients, make manufacturing more efficient and develop products that address environmental concerns and its responsibilities to associates and communities, everywhere Nutreco operates.

Calling for change
This year’s report once again features a section sharing how Nutreco addresses dilemmas around issues such as the trade-offs required when formulating environmentally friendly feed, the effectiveness of pre-competitive platforms and the complicated issue of legal deforestation – and the importance of cooperating across the industry to make progress. It includes an open letter to the government calling for change, asking legislators to modernize regulatory frameworks across the globe in order to take sustainable feed production into account.

Nutreco has drafted its report according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and includes a description of how the company is addressing the eight United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that management believes the company is best positioned to impact.
