The Skretting Gets Kids to School program has been helping children in Vietnam at back-to-school time since 2011, as part of Nutreco’s commitment to the good citizenship pillar of our sustainability strategy. Through the program, our aquaculture business line, Skretting, brings kits made up of a backpack, a raincoat, a notebook, a water bottle and a cap to children from disadvantaged backgrounds in shrimp and fish farming communities from Central to Southern Vietnam.
A tradition of care: Skretting helps get kids to school
The aim is to help ease the financial burden on parents as they prepare necessary supplies for their children at the beginning of the new school year. Since the program's start, the team has delivered over 10,000 gift packs to children in farming communities across Vietnam.
In 2025, Nutreco won the Community Impact Award (Large Enterprises) at the Dutch Business Association awards for the Skretting Gets Kids to School program. These awards celebrate members who are driving real change in Vietnam through meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Skretting Gets Kids to School promotes access to long-term education in rural aquaculture communities while also motivating children who have dropped out of school to resume their studies. It is made possible through close collaboration between Skretting’s employees, sales teams, customers and local government officials, who all join hands to support education and care for the next generation.
This year, the team delivered nearly 300 school gift sets directly to the children. School supplies were packed in recycled bags made from Skretting feed packaging, so that the gifts not only delivered messages of support for education but the importance of sustainability and protecting the environment.
Our good citizenship pillar is about being a good citizen and having a positive impact on our main stakeholder groups, and this project clearly aligns with that aim.
