Nutreco publishes 2016 Sustainability Report

In 2016, Nutreco has made steady progress against its sustainability objectives. The launch of Nuterra, Nutreco’s new sustainability programme was an important milestone. Aligned with and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Nuterra sets out a more focused sustainability strategy and provides tools to implement it throughout the entire organisation. The 2016 Sustainability Report was drafted according to the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards. It was awarded with third-party assurance by our independent auditors.

“Nutreco has a long tradition of transparent reporting and it is something we take pride in. With this report we have tried to bring our standard one step further by not only highlighting our successes, but also by indicating where we need to step up our own efforts”

“Nowadays it is a challenge for companies to secure readership of sustainability reports with its stakeholders, let alone the public at large”, said José Villalon, Nutreco Sustainability Director. “By linking the structure of the report more explicitly to our mission of ‘Feeding the Future’, we hope to provide a better insight into how Nutreco contributes to doubling food production, while halving the environmental impact.”

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G-4 framework for sustainability reporting formed the basis for the 2016 report. In addition, Nutreco continues to seek independent verification of its report and was awarded with respective assurances by third-party auditors. This confirms Nutreco´s continued commitment to sustainability reporting, accountability and transparency.

In line with the Nuterra programme, the Sustainability Report highlights specific case studies that demonstrate the sustainability attributes of Nutreco’s nutritional solutions, provided through its global operating company brands Trouw Nutrition (animal nutrition) and Skretting (aqua feed).

As such, the report provides a valuable tool for customers in their communication to clients and stakeholders. This is strengthened by aligning the report with eight of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals where Nutreco’s activities can influence impact reductions.
